Granny Energy

I recently read an article about how “grandma hobbies” are helping with young peoples’ mental health. I can believe this! “Grandma hobbies” are all about slowing down, savoring simple joys, and engaging in meaningful, hands-on activities.

My friends from university will laugh at my endorsement of this, as I’ve always had rather “grandma like” tendencies…you know, like getting up early, making homemade yogourt, enjoying rocking chairs and story books, crocheting, knitting, crafting, gardening, tea drinking etc…

I’ve gotta say, there is some wisdom in these “grandma hobbies”. Here are some of the potential benefits:

  • Connection with others (including other generations)
  • Creativity, productivity, accomplishment
  • Time away from screens
  • Opportunity to slow down and to practice mindfulness

How can you harness some “granny energy” today? You may just notice a boost to your mental health!

Note-as I write this article, I am wearing a crocheted sweater and sipping tea, just to help harness some of that granny energy!
